Man charged with murder for killing cop during drug raid. Informant mistook his gardening hobby for a marijuana grow

For a misdemeanor, they broke down his door, a cop is dead, and a 28-year-old guy's life is ruined. Looks like the informant mistook Frederick's gardening hobby for an elaborate marijuana growing operation, and those Japanese maple trees for marijuana plants.

Since when did pot become such a big deal that cops are needed to make drug raids in the middle of the night? Are they afraid that in the morning he would have fled to Mexico? Are there not enough murderers and rapists cases for these guys to attend to?

I agree, the poliece forces around the country need to get their priorities straight. They also need to get their facts straight. While the leaves on a Marijuana and a green Japanese maple plant look very similar the plants themselves are completely different structurally. Law enforcement also need to double check it's facts before it busts down the doors of citizens.

In most cases doors do not need to be broken down. This should be done only when it has been proved that those inside are a present threat and danger to others. Not potential, Present. If a house is suspected to contain a criminal it can be placed under siege. Cut off power, water and plug drains. Do anything but break down doors except in the direst emergency. Break ins should require a duly sitting Judge be present.

This is just ridiculous. These Cops feel that pot is soooo dangerous that they need to kick down doors, but it's not important enough for them to learn what the hell it looks like?

The Police are at fault for the officer's death, and the young man should be released and compensated.

These guys need to concentrate on meth labs like the one next door to me.

I'm with Mars on this one.

This doesn't seem proper to me.

If someone breaks my door down they may well get shot.

How can they charge the man with any crime for defending his home from violent invaders? Shouldn't the police force be charged for breaking and entering with intent to harm and reckless endagerment?

only in america and other facist countries! the more i read and surf the net, the more i am worried for people living in the good old U.S of A.
what bothers me is you all comment, post on blogs etc but nothing changes. you are having a pre election to pick a candidate for president, spending heaps of money that should be going to educate the police on basic human rights.

do something, contact your elected official, anything apart from trolling the net leaving useless comments. and yes, i live in a democratic country. and no we dont have these abuses here!

Yes Dave Vallence, nothing ever changes. The cops in America do not work for the people. The war on drugs (while supporting and even in cases forcing people to take prescription drugs) is a war on American citizens by American police and military. You (If diagnosed schizophrenic or bipolar) can be forced to take brain damaging neuroleptic drugs with permanently disabling and even fatal side effects, but if you get caught growing or smoking a particular plant some grunt police officer is going to throw you down, arrest you and take you to jail.

The police in America don't work for or answer to the citizens, and yet some (idiotic) people wonder why so many people hate the police and view them as enemies.

This is complete bull@!$%#. Cops need to focus more on the pedo down the street. He wasn't growing pot so he had NO idea who was breaking down his damn door, and to be honest, I'd start shooting people too! This is not his fault at all. This is just another example on how bad our law system is failing. And to think these are the people 'protecting' us from the 'bad guys.' Sounds like they either need more training or they are complete idiots.

Honestly, why can't they get the men that are making meth or the men smuggling cocaine, instead of bustin in someones house only to find maple trees. God, I love America.

Pot>Alcohol/Cocaine/Meth...anything really.

Lazyness before liver disease.

I just had to throw that out there.
