This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

I think this is dumb I will not fly American to lay off the people that keep the airplanes flying safe. They can't keep up with inspection that are mandatory now. Book with someone else if you want to fly.

Just as airline safety has come into serious question (e.g. the FAA whistle-blowers who testified about missed airline inspections which grounded hundreds of flights back in the spring), the airlines are cutting the MAINTENANCE crews????? Airline safety is very questionable now with crowded runways and near misses on take-offs and landings. Recently the airline pilots union noted that aircraft were flying with far less reserve fuel on board as the airlines made cuts to save fuel. These new airline practices are dangerous, and I believe we will begin to see more and more crashes resulting from these cost-cutting practices. This just spells more disaster for a declining industry. Who would ever have thought that this industry would have gone into such decline as to travel in reverse to the days when air travel first got going as a commercial enterprise?

I'd rather have plenty of maintenance on the aircraft I fly in rather than the useless "flying waitresses" (flight attendants) who are more of an annoyance than anything.

I hope they go belly up. For what they did to Braniff in the early 80s (conspiring to fix prices to bankrupt Braniff so they could get Braniff's gates at DFW) they need to join TWA, PanAm and Eastern in the airline graveyard.

They can blame the democrates for the job losses. I have been a lifelong Dem but I'm changing to republican. The Dems no longer represent the people...just the enviornmentalist who send them money. Just the announcement of more drilling for oil has dropped the oil price by 15 bucks. If the Dems continue to lie about the effects of more oil in the pipeline and block the vote on this issue then they deserve to lose in Nov. Ill be glad to vote against my former party this November.

        Pissed off former Democrat

Sorry, D Hagan, you see it very narrow! It's the Bush-ies that ruled the country for almost a decade! Dem's are nothing to brag on, but job cuts are being allowed to be shipped oversea, and Bush is the one who doesn't even blink when they go by the thousands. Dem's need to dis associate themselves from ultra environmentalists, who betveen choosing of saving a tree or the nation, they choose a tree!!. It may cost Dem's the election if they don't get more balanced!!! But Rep's don't have much to offer either. We really need some wise people who will represent the people, but we can wait till cows come home.. they never will !!!

When I was coming home from oversea last December I flew Austrian Airliner. The service was professional, the blankets they gave us were packed in plastic bags and clean. (When I flew with American Airline I could tell they were used on previous flight buy someone else). The food was good and everything was done orderly. Before boarding in Vienna I was just amazed the way even announcers done their job so professionally. When I came to Washington Dulles Airport I've seen only confusion. I must say I was embarrassed for foreign people who came of the same plane I came from for them to see how unprofessional and backwards things were here. The person who was announcing over the loud speakers could hardly speak English, and in middle of his speech the mike went down, no apologies... I'm saying all this to say that our quest to get more and give less has backfired really bad... The other day news came they're making pilots fly with less fuel, now they're going to cut on maintenance personnel... Do they really think they will survive, cutting even the most important things that concerns passengers? If I go oversea again I WILL NOT FLY AMERICAN AIRLINES, they can just fold up and go under before I go and risk my life and my family's lives. One more evidence of good ole' American greed , and what will it accomplish. It has brought disaster, from top down, I said from top first, because it's the politicians that allowed it to fester, and flourish, and it has destroyed this country. And YOU, GEORGE W. BUSH, finished it off, altogether!!!

I guess I'm somewhat perplexed by some of the comments. If AA cuts the number of flights, gounds some of their airplanes, that they would need less mechanics. What am I missing??????????
